According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester City could make a summer approach to sign Danny Ings, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.
Ings seems to have fully recovered from the knee problems that he was suffering from during his time at Liverpool and has not looked back since completing a move to Southampton.
It was previously reported that the striker was stalling over signing a new contract on the South Coast and Spurs were exploring the possibility of landing him in the summer.
However, if The Athletic are to be believed, the North Londoners could face competition from Man City for Ings at the end of the season.
The report claims that Pep Guardiola’s side are on the lookout for a replacement for Sergio Aguero given the uncertainty surrounding the Argentine’s future.
Ings is said to be one of the players that City are considering, along with Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku.
However, the report suggests that the Premier League leaders could still decide to offer Aguero a new deal and that the 32-year-old is open to extending his stay at the club.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Aguero leaves City when his contract runs out at the end of the season and Pep Guardiola’s men go for Ings, I believe that the Saints star is unlikely to turn down their approach in favour of a move to Spurs.
He would likely prefer to go to the Etihad stadium knowing he will be their first-choice up front rather than coming to Spurs where he might have to compete/rotate with Kane and Son.
