Report: Spurs could face competition from Man Utd for England international

Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for Nick Pope who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, according to a report by The Daily Star,

Pope has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League over the last couple of years, displaying his tremendous shot-stopping ability and commanding presence in the penalty area.

Previous reports indicated that Tottenham want the Burnley number one as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris in the summer, with the Spurs captain potentially on his way to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Daily Star claim that United have also entered the race for Pope with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer planning to shake up his goalkeeping options at the end of this season.

The report suggests that the Red Devils are ready to sell David De Gea this summer should they receive a suitable offer for the Spaniard.

The United coaching staff are said to consider Dean Henderson as too inexperienced to be the club’s outright number one and want to bring in Pope to compete with the 22-year-old.

Interestingly, Henderson is another goalkeeper who has been linked with a summer move to Tottenham, with Jose Mourinho said to be an admirer of the Man Utd academy graduate.

Spurs Web Opinion

Pope is one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Premier League and hardly makes any mistakes. He is someone who inspires confidence in the backline and if we were to lose Lloris in the summer, we can do a lot worse than signing the Burnley man.

However, I am convinced that the club will try their hardest to get Lloris to sign an extension to his contract as we are not in a position to spend £30m-£40m on a goalkeeper this summer. There are plenty of other areas of the squad that need to be strengthened.
