Report: Spurs could face competition from Newcastle and Wolves for Spaniard

El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez has told Sport (as translated by Sport Witness) that Tottenham are facing competition from Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers for Ansu Fati’s signature.

Multiple Spanish publications have reported over the last month that Tottenham are eyeing a move for Fati, who has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona this season (Fichajes.net).

Sport claimed a couple of days ago that the Catalan giants had decided to cash in on the 20-year-old this summer as they need to raise funds to pursue their top transfer targets.

The publication asserted that Fati’s agent, Jorge Mendes, had promised to bring an offer of around €70m (£61.7m) for his client, which Barca would be ready to accept.

The report added that the Premier League is the Spain international’s most likely destination if he is to leave Camp Nou in the summer.

Alvarez has now said that it is not just Tottenham who have expressed an interest in Fati but also Newcastle and Wolves.

The journalist added that a bid between €40m (£35.2m) and €50m (£44m) would be enough to sign the Las Masia graduate.

I cannot see Spurs or any other Premier League club paying £60m for Fati but the 20-year-old would likely attract plenty of interest if he is priced at £35m.

A number of clubs will be keeping a close eye on a whole host of Barca’s players this summer, given that the Catalan giants need to sell offset their losses.
