Report: Spurs could face competition from PL rivals for Julian Nagelsmann

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Chelsea could enter the race to sign Tottenham’s managerial target, Julian Nagelsmann.

It emerged in the days following Nagelsmann’s sacking by Bayern Munich that the German has shot to the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Antonio Conte (Football Insider).

The Daily Mail revealed on Monday that Spurs have reached out to the former RB Leipzig boss’ camp regarding their managerial vacancy and are awaiting a response.

The report explained that Daniel Levy was keen to weigh up his chances of signing Nageslmann before opening talks with other candidates.

It was thought until recently that Real Madrid would be Tottenham’s main competitors for the recently departed Bayern boss, with Bild reporting that Los Blancos have been long-term admirers of the 35-year-old.

However, Plettenberg has now explained that Nagelsmann is also on Chelsea’s shortlist should they decide to part ways with Graham Potter.

The journalist explains that while the Blues have no immediate plans to sack Potter, the 47-year-old needs to deliver over the coming weeks to retain the hierarchy’s support.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think the Spurs job might appeal to Nagelsmann more than the Chelsea job, given the quality we have in the forward areas.

The German would also be aware that his reputation will skyrocket if he can guide the North London club to silverware.

However, it will be difficult for any manager to turn down Real Madrid if they come calling.
