Report: Spurs could face competition from PSG for Newcastle player

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United wide man Allan Saint-Maximin when the transfer window opens in the summer, according to a report by The Daily Mail.

Saint-Maximin has been impressive for the Magpies since completing a move from Nice last summer.

The winger’s four goals and seven assists this campaign in all competitions (transfermarkt) do not tell the entire story as he has often been almost the sole attacking threat in a side that defends in a low block.

The Daily Mail claims that 23-year-old’s performances have alerted several sides including Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG have reportedly been impressed with the French Under-21 international’s development and are weighing up an offer.

The report claims that Tottenham have also already expressed their interest in Saint-Maximin, and are willing to offer players such as Danny Rose and Juan Foyth plus cash for the former Nice star.

The Magpies are reportedly braced for bids for Saint-Maximin and will try to resist the offers they receive.

However, it is suggested that the Frenchman’s future at St James’ Park could depend on how the club’s proposed takeover talks unfold.

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is true that we have a fair few wide options in our squad, we do not have any like Saint-Maximin, who can just pick up the ball and run at the opposition. The Frenchman can be unstoppable on his day.

However, Newcastle are likely to demand a considerable transfer fee for him this summer. I doubt if we will be in a position to afford it, even if we include the likes of Rose in the deal.
