Report: Spurs could give Chelsea £10m cash injection if they sign defender

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea would be in line for a significant cash windfall if Tottenham snap up Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer due to the sell-on clause the Blues have.

Guehi is rumoured to be one of the centre-backs on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer, with Football Transfers reporting back in March that the North London club believe the 22-year-old is a perfect fit for the profile of defender they are looking for.

The report added that the Lilywhites are currently leading the race for the England international’s signature.

The Mail have now also backed up Tottenham’s interest in Guehi but the publication adds that the defender’s situation is also being monitored by both Arsenal and Manchester United.

It is alleged that while Palace would be open to letting the England international leave, they would demand a minimum of £50m for his services.

The report explains that if Spurs do pay £50m for Geuhi, £10m of that fee would go into Chelsea’s coffers since the Blues inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal that saw the player move to Selhurst Park in 2021.

Spurs Web Opinion

Guehi ticks a lot of boxes for Spurs, who need to add homegrown players to the squad and £50m is a reasonable price to pay for a player who could potentially play at the top level for another decade.

However, the decision on summer transfer targets is not likely to be finalised until a new director or a head coach is in place.
