Report: Spurs could give Man United a financial boost if they land midfielder

Manchester World have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Everton’s James Garner comes as encouraging news to Manchester United, who have a sell-on clause on the player.

Man Utd and Spurs look set to battle it out for a fourth place in the Premier League this season and the two clubs might be competing for some of the same players in next summer’s transfer window.

It turns out that Tottenham may now boost the coffers of the Red Devils as the Lilywhites plot a move for Garner.

It was reported by Football Insider a few days ago that Spurs look set to battle Newcastle United for the 22-year-old’s services next summer, with both clubs thought to be keeping track of the youngster.

Man United have a sell-on clause for James Garner

The outlet suggested that Everton expect several bids to arrive for the midfielder, with the Toffees hoping to raise between £20m and £25m from the player’s sale.

Manchester News say that United would be entitled to a portion of the fee as they attached a sell-on clause when they sold their academy graduate to the Toffees.

The publication states that while the finer details of the clause are unclear, it could be as high as 40 per cent. That means that if Tottenham do pay £25m for Garner, Erik Ten Hag’s men could be owed £10m of that fee.

The sell-on clause will be taken into account by Everton when they set the price for Garner, with the Toffees thus likely demanding a significant fee for the youngster.

It does appear as if the 22-year-old is the man Spurs have earmarked as an alternative to Conor Gallagher should a move for the Chelsea man fail to materialise.
