Report: Spurs could have advantage over PL rivals in race for 23-year-old

According to a report in the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham are likely to hold an advantage over Everton in their race for Juventus centre-back Merih Demiral.

Strengthening at centre-back is expected to be a priority for Tottenham this summer, with doubts over the futures of both Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez.

Demiral, who has struggled for regular game time since his move to Juve a year and a half ago, is rumoured to be one of the centre-backs Spurs are eyeing this summer.

Nicolo Schira claimed last week that Tottenham and Everton had both enquired about the Turkey international’s availability.

Gazzetta Dello Sport have now also suggested that the Lilywhites and the Toffees are set to battle it out for Demiral’s signature.

The report reveals that Juve have decided to cash in on the 23-year-old this summer in order to raise funds for their transfer targets.

It is explained that Fabio Paratici’s relationship with the centre-back could put the North London club in pole position to beat Everton to his signature.

It would not be a surprise to see the club being active in the Italian market now that we have Paratici’s expertise on board. The 48-year-old seems to have played a key role in talking Demiral to the Allianz Stadium. So this rumour certainly seems to have some legs.
