Ange Postecoglou could be set to be reunited with his former Celtic star, Jota, as sources suggest Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make a move for the forward in January.
Tottenham may be flying right now, with Ange Postecoglou taking his new side to the top of the Premier League, but that doesn’t stop rumours of the Australian looking to improve his squad.
Since the departure of Harry Kane, it has been down to Heung-min Son and Richarlison to lead the line for Spurs. The former has done a particularly good job, with six goals this year already (Transfermarkt).
However, it seems Postecoglou may look to bolster his attacking options with a player he knows very well. Jota, whom Postecoglou signed for Celtic in 2021, is having a torrid time since his move to Saudi Arabia this summer and has already been linked with a switch to Spurs (Daily Mirror).
Spurs could offer Jota an escape route
Jota is not even registered to play for Al-Ittihad in the league this year and is thought to be a wanted man come January. That’s according to Football Insider, who claim Tottenham will be “one of several clubs” who are keen to sign the Portuguese attacker.
It is thought Jota will be “one of the best available and most sought-after stars” when the January transfer window rolls around, and that his situation in the Middle East has “caught the attention” of Spurs boss, Postecoglou.
The 58-year-old is a “big fan” of Jota, and could end up rescuing his former player from the predicament he finds himself in.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is bizarre what has happened to Jota out there. Why any club would sign a player and then cast him aside after five brief appearances is beyond me, but I guess these teams can afford to be so flippant.
Whether Jota could do a job in the Premier League or not, I’m not quite sure, but I would trust Ange’s judgement if he wanted to sign him.
