Report: Spurs could lose this star to Real Madrid on a free

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to strengthen their squad this summer after a largely successful season both domestically and in Europe.

Despite not signing any new players, contending with stadium delays, injuries, and Son being away with South Korea on two occasions, Spurs look set to achieve a top-four finish in the Premier League for the fourth consecutive year.

The club have also reached their first ever Champions League semi-final, and still harbour hopes of reaching the final of the prestigious competition.

However, Tottenham may find it difficult to hang on to playmaker Christian Eriksen, as the midfielder enters the final year of his contract at the end of this season.

If they cannot agree on a new deal, Spurs must decide whether to sell the player for a profit now or keep him and risk losing him on a free in the summer of 2020.

A report from the Sun claims that Real Madrid are happy to play the waiting game for the player they consider to be a long-term successor to Luka Modric.

The Sun say Madrid will pile on the pressure with a late August bid for Eriksen, either taking him at a cheaper price or simply waiting for the free transfer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I am still hopeful that Eriksen will sign a new contract in the summer, especially if Spurs make it to the final of the Champions League, and if he sees money being spent on the squad. However, if Eriksen is not interested in a new contract, then I believe selling him early this summer would give the club the best chance to get a high price for him, while giving them time to reinvest the money too.
