Report: Spurs could make late move for midfielder if contract talks collapse

Tottenham Hotspur have already signed one promising young player from Leeds United this summer in Jack Clarke.

The pacey 18-year-old, who impressed after breaking into their first team last season has been loaned back to the Championship club for the 19/20 season.

Now, it appears that Spurs are now after yet another Leeds youngster with Football Insider reporting that the Lilywhites are plotting to sign Kalvin Phillips.

The report claims that the 23-year-old, who has two years left on his contract at Elland Road, is currently negotiating a new deal and that Daniel Levy is poised to take advantage in the event that talks break down.

It is suggested that Leeds value Phillips at £30million but that Spurs are hoping they can secure his signature for a considerably lower fee later on in the window.

Phillips, who usually plays as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a centre-half, is fairly experienced for his age having featured relatively consistently for Leeds over the last four seasons.

Spurs Web Opinion

Although Phillips impressed in central midfield last season, it could be that Spurs are eyeing him as a potential centre half option given with the speculation surrounding Alderweireld’s future.

This and the links with Saliba suggest that the club is content to bring in someone younger this summer rather than a direct replacement for the Belgian international.
