Report: Spurs could move for 28-year-old who Conte admired while at Inter Milan

According to Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Antonio Conte wants to make six new signings this summer, including two midfielders (Telegraph).

If Pedulla is to be believed, Zielinski is one of the options on the North London club’s radar ahead of next season.

The Polish international has been a consistent performer for the Partenopei since arriving in Naples from Empoli back in 2016, having made 281 appearances in all competitions for the Italian outfit (transfermarkt).

Although Zielinski has had another reasonably productive campaign, with seven goals and five assists in all competitions, he has not been a regular in Luciano Spalletti’s starting eleven this campaign.

Pedulla claims the attacking midfielder will consider his future at the end of the season.

Spurs are said to hold an interest in Zielinski, with Fabio Paratici said to be a fan of the player while Antonio Conte was said to have attempted to take him to Inter Milan in 2019.

The journalist states that Tottenham could begin negotiations for the experienced midfielder, however, adds that the decision ‘will depend’ on Napoli.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are not likely to spend big on a number eight this summer as I expect Conte to stick with his preferred 3-4-3 formation next season.

So, I expect us to go for a player of Zielinski’s profile rather than a big-name superstar like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

There is no doubt that Conte and Paratici will be well aware of the 28-year-old’s attributes, given their expertise in Italian football.
