Report: Spurs could move for Roma star before the transfer window closes

According to the print edition of Tuttosport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a move for AS Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout.

Veretout, who previously had a brief spell in the Premier League with Aston Villa in the Premier League back in 2015, has seen his reputation grow considerably since joining Roma in 2019.

The 28-year-old has been a regular in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven and has notched up 4 goals and 8 assists in all competitions so far this season (TransferMarkt).

Tuttosport have now claimed that Veretout is liked by Antonio Conte, as well as Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici.

The publication suggests that the North Londoners could make a move for the midfielder before the transfer window shuts in less than two weeks.

It is explained that Roma have not yet received any offers for the France international but the Giallorossi would consider selling the player if Tottenham’s interest is ‘serious’.

This is because the Serie A club allegedly cannot afford to make any permanent signings this month unless they sell players.

Spurs Web Opinion

Veretout is quite versatile and a tidy player but I do not see him being anything more than a squad player at Spurs. I am not convinced he would be an upgrade on Hojbjerg, Skipp or Winks.

I believe Conte is more likely to prioritise a number eight, given that he seems unconvinced by Dele and Ndombele.
