Report: Spurs could move for Spanish sporting director as Paratici replacement

Mundo Deportivo have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Sevilla sporting director Monchi, whose future at the La Liga club is now in doubt.

Tottenham confirmed on Tuesday that Ange Postecoglou would be taking over as the club’s head coach, with the North London club now expected to turn their attention to finding a replacement for Fabio Paratici.

One of those options could be Monchi, who according to Mundo Deportivo is ‘showing signs of exhaustion’ after a difficult season at Sevilla

The Spaniard has allegedly asked the club for a ‘period of reflection’ to make a decision on his future and is now thought to be considering jumping ship this summer.

The decision to sell the likes of Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos last summer is not said to have gone down well with Monchi, who allegedly feels that ‘he does not have full power in financial matters’ at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium

Mundo Deportivo state that the 54-year-old now plans to take a break to ‘start another project’, with Tottenham potentially being one of the options.

This is because Monchi has excellent relations with the Spurs hierarchy, having negotiated the Sergio Reguilon and Erik Lamela deals, and most recently Bryan Gil’s return.

Just because Monchi has a good relationship with Levy and co does not mean that he is likely to be near the top of Tottenham’s wishlist for a sporting director.

I suspect that Spurs want to give quite a limited profile to Paratici’s successor, asking him to focus just on recruitment, with Scott Munn now in place to oversee the academy and the commercial side of the operation.
