Report: Spurs could move for star-striker who just signed new contract

According to EuroSport, Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez despite the forward penning a new contract last month.

Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for Martinez during the summer transfer window but ultimately failed to lure the forward away from Inter.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed at the time that Spurs had initially agreed on a €60m (£50.9m) fee for the 24-year-old but the deal fell through following Romelu Lukaku’s move to Chelsea, with Inter no longer needing the funds from the Argentine’s proposed sale.

The reigning Serie A champions announced last week that the Argentine international has put pen to paper on a new deal that runs until 2026.

However, Eurosport have now claimed that Antonio Conte could look to raid his former club for Martinez despite the contract extension.

It is suggested that the Lilywhites could make a fresh approach for the forward within the next two transfer windows.

It is explained that the Nerazzuri need to raise funds due to cover their losses and the new contract was handed to Martinez to protect his value.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs do move for Martinez, I can only see it happening next summer if Kane leaves. However, even in that case, I believe a move for Vlahovic is much more likely. I suspect the speculation linking us to Martinez has only remerged due to Conte’s appointment.
