Report: Spurs could offer £10m deal for Championship star on one condition

Journalist Dean Jones has written in his column on SportsLens that Tottenham could decide to make a move for Blackburn Rovers starlet Adam Wharton this window if their pursuit of Conor Gallagher falls through.

Wharton, who broke into Blackburn’s starting eleven last season, has now become a fixture in the Championship club’s midfield and quite a few Premier League sides are now seemingly sniffing around the 19-year-old.

Tottenham’s interest in the teenager first came to light back in November when 90min reported that the Lilywhites had scouted the youngster extensively this season.

However, the outlet made it clear that Ange Postecoglou’s men would face quite a bit of competition for the centre midfielder, with the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United also keeping an eye on him.

A little over a week ago, Football Insider also confirmed Spurs’ interest in the Rovers man but they claimed that the Ewood Park hierarchy have no intention of letting the player leave mid-season, which is why the Premier League side might have to wait until next summer.

Adam Wharton could be a Gallagher alternative for Spurs

Jones has now written that while Tottenham are still continuing to explore a deal for Gallagher, the negotiations over the England international have not progressed.

As a result, he says that Spurs could look to ‘strike an early deal’ for Wharton before the window slams shut at the end of this month.

The journalist asserts that a bid of around £10m would be enough to bring the young midfielder to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

One would think that Wharton is seen more as one for the future while Gallagher would be viewed as someone who can instantly improve the starting eleven. So, I am not sure if Tottenham would have identified the Blackburn youngster as an alternative for the Chelsea star.
