Report: Spurs could potentially offload both Doherty and Emerson this summer

The Daily Express have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could offload Matt Doherty this summer along with Emerson Royal.

Tottenham are reported to be in the market for a right wing-back, with the North Londoners reportedly one of the frontrunners for Middlesbrough star Djed Spence (The Northern Echo).

It was previously reported that Antonio Conte’s men plan to cash in on Emerson, just 12 months on from signing him from Barcelona, and plan to use Spence in tandem with Doherty at right wing-back next season (Football.London).

The Express have now also backed up Tottenham’s intention to offload Emerson, reporting that the club are now open to offers for the Brazilian.

However, they claim that Spurs could also consider cashing in on Doherty, and potentially start the season with a new set of right wing-backs.

It is explained that Antonio Conte wants to build a competitive squad across the board to cope with the demands of Champions League football.

The Express reported: ‘Despite an upturn in form in the second half of the campaign, Spurs are open to offers for Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal less than one year on from his £26m switch from Barcelona.

‘Matt Doherty is also a player Tottenham could potentially consider offloading if Spence was to arrive in North London.’

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham do receive any decent offers for Doherty this summer, they will probably consider it. However, I expect the 30-year-old to stay given his exceptional run of form for a couple of months before his injury. The Republic of Ireland international showed enough to suggest that he can be a major attacking threat in Conte’s system.
