Report: Spurs could prioritise move for experienced Real Madrid star

Fichajes have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Antonio Rudiger amidst the uncertainty surrounding the centre-back’s future at Real Madrid.

Multiple publications have revealed over the last few weeks (Football.London and The Athletic) that Spurs are expected to sign two central defenders during the summer transfer window.

Fichajes have now also reported that strengthening at central defence is a priority for the Lilywhites and asserted that Rudiger is one of the options on the club’s radar.

The report explains that Spurs see the German as a very good fit for Antonio Conte’s back three, and the fact that he has plenty of Premier League experience makes him a lucrative option for the North London club.

The publication states that Rudiger has not convinced since joining Madrid last summer and there are some doubts over whether he is suited to playing in a back four.

Fichajes add that Los Blancos could cash in on the former Chelsea man in order to push ahead with a move for RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol in the summer.

The report also asserts that Rudiger would be open to leaving if Gvardiol arrives through the door at the Santiago Bernabeu as the 29-year-old has no intention of being a bit-part player.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite Rudiger’s struggles this season, I would be surprised if Madrid let him go in the summer.

With Carlo Ancelotti’s future in doubt, their next manager might well deploy a back three, in which case the German could become an important player.

Besides, I am not convinced that the 29-year-old would want to come to Spurs as that would ruin his legacy at Chelsea.
