Report: Spurs could promote 18-year-old full-back to first-team next season

If reports over recent weeks are to be believed Tottenham are set for a rebuild this summer despite the financial constraints the club are having to deal with due to the coronavirus epidemic (Daily Mail).

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to bring in as many as five new players to the club in the summer and left-back is said to be one of the positions where the club has prioritised additions (Bild).

Danny Rose, who is currently on loan at Newcastle doesn’t appear to be Mourinho’s plans after he reportedly fell out with the Spurs boss earlier in the season (Daily Mail).

However, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has claimed that the Lilywhites could promote youngster Denis Cirkin to the first-team instead of singing a left-back.

The 18-year-old, who has impressed in the youth ranks for Spurs, is yet to make a first-team appearance but Mourinho revealed earlier that he was a fan of the teenager.

Gold asserts that the Spurs coaching staff see Cirkin as ‘one for the future’ and the youngster could thus find himself being handed first-team opportunities.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have been impressed with what I’ve seen of Cirkin but I don’t think Jose is likely to trust him enough to play him in defence. Like we saw with Sessegnon, I believe the Spurs boss is much more likely to play him in a more advanced position until he develops the maturity to play at the back.
