Report: Spurs could reignite interest in 21-year-old target this January

The Times have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could try to snap up Anthony Gordon from Everton again in January.

Tottenham’s efforts to sign Gordon back in June were knocked back by Everton (Lyall Thomas) while the Toffees are also thought to have rejected a £40m offer from Chelsea for the winger (Sky Sports).

Towards the end of the summer transfer window, reports suggested that Chelsea were the favourites to snap up the Everton star, (The Times) while Spurs were also backed to submit a late formal offer for the youngster (Football Insider).

However, both London clubs were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the 21-year-old, who ended up staying put at Goodison Park.

Journalist Paul Brown told GiveMeSport last month that the winger is unlikely to sign a new deal with the Toffees and could explore his options in January.

The Times have now revealed that Spurs were keen on signing Gordon in the summer but were put off by Everton’s £60m asking price.

The report adds that Antonio Conte’s men could now explore a move for the England Under-21 international once again when the transfer window reopens.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gordon’s current deal at Goodison Park runs until 2025 (Transfermarkt) and so, Everton will not be forced to sell him in January even if he does not sign a new deal. Unless they get a massive offer, which is too good to turn down, I expect Frank Lampard’s men to hang on to the 21-year-old until next summer.
