Report: Spurs could reignite interest in Serie A midfielder this January

CalcioMercato have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could make a renewed attempt to sign Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez in January after failing to get a deal over the line for him in the summer.

Nandez was linked with a move to Spurs during the summer transfer window, with reports stating the Uruguay international had put in a transfer request in order to complete a move to the Lilywhites.

However, the 25-year-old ended up staying put at Cagliari, with Tottenham allegedly finding the Serie A club’s €30m (£25.7m) asking price for the midfielder to be too excessive.

Nandez’s agent Pablo Bentacur admitted back in October that the Cagliari president has promised to sell the midfielder when the transfer window opens in January.

CalcioMercato have now suggested that the Cagliari star could well get the move he wants in January.

Tottenham are backed to make another attempt to sign the midfielder but it is revealed that the North London club may face competition from the Serie A.

Inter Milan and Napoli are both said to be admirers of Nandez, with Simone Inzaghi allegedly viewing the midfielder as a good fit for his 3-5-2 system.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs do plan on selling one of Winks or Ndombele in January, Nandez could certainly be a useful addition as a squad option. However, I am not convinced that the Uruguayan would improve our starting eleven.

Ideally, we should be looking at someone like Franck Kessie if we want to close the gap on the top sides in the Premier League.
