Report: Spurs could return to Wembley in Premier League action

Tottenham could be set for a return to Wembley soon with The Sun reporting that the Premier League could resume in June or July with as many as four games per day being played at the national stadium.

Although the season has been suspended indefinitely until further notice as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the FA and the Premier League have reiterated their commitment to playing the season out (Mirror).

So far, there have been mixed reports about the chances of the season being completed, with some suggesting that the season could even be voided (Sport Italia via Football Italia). All clubs will lose out on substantial TV and matchday revenue if the season is not played to a conclusion (Daily Mail).

The Sun report that clubs are desperate to avoid the repercussions on their TV deals and lose out on considerable revenue.

It is claimed that the Premier League is exploring the possibility of playing the remainder of top flight fixtures in June or July behind closed doors, solely as a TV event.

The report reveals that as many as four games per day could be played at Wembley to complete the nine or ten respective games which each club have left to play.

While there has been no official confirmation regarding this development, it is suggested that completing the season as a TV event would help clubs reduce the loses they could otherwise incur.

Voiding the season will cause long-lasting financial damage to many of these clubs including big boys like ourselves which is why everybody seems desperate to complete the season. However, given the realities on the ground, and the expected timeline of the COVID-19 curve being flattened, I don’t believe it is realistic to complete the season before the end of July.
