Report: Spurs could return with second offer for midfielder this summer

According to a report in Sport (as relayed by Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur could return with a second offer for Barcelona midfielder Lucas de Vega after seeing their opening offer turned down by the Catalan giants.

De Vega, who has come through the ranks at La Masia, currently plays for Barcelona B and is yet to be capped by the senior side.

The central midfielder was loaned to second division side Cartegena last season and won many admirers with his displays.

It was reported that Barcelona rejected a £1.8 million bid from Tottenham for the 20-year-old at the start of the month, with AFP journalist, Tom Allnutt, later revealing that the La Liga side had no intention of letting the youngster leave.

However, Sport claims that Spurs have not been discouraged by seeing their opening offer turned down and could make another bid for De Vega.

The report asserts that an offer of around £4 million might be enough to see Barca part ways with the midfielder this transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

As we saw with the capture of Alfie Devine, Spurs seem open to potential opportunities to snap up young talents this transfer window. However, this likely will not impact the list of targets that Mourinho and Hitchens have likely earmarked. De Vega is likely to be looked at as one for the future rather than as someone to improve the first-team. If we were to complete a deal for him, I would not be surprised to see us loan him out to a Spanish club.
