Report: Spurs could secure cut-price deal for defender they wanted in the summer

With Victor Nelsson now slipping down the pecking order at Galatasaray after being refused the chance to leave in the summer, it seems Tottenham Hotspur may now be able to snap up the defender on the cheap in January.

Tottenham desperately needed a new defender in the summer and, after being linked with a slew of names, the North London side eventually swooped to sign Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

The way the 22-year-old adapted to the Premier League and forged a solid partnership with Cristian Romero at the heart of Ange Postecoglou‘s defence, proved signing him was the right choice.

However, with the young Dutchman now out with a hamstring injury, Spurs need reinforcements once more. That’s why, with the January transfer looming, the club is once again being linked with a host of centre-halves.

Victor Nelsson was linked to Spurs in the summer, but nothing came of it. Star Gazetesi (via Sport Witness) recently claimed the player was again on Tottenham’s radar for January, while Takvim suggested Galatasaray would demand €20-25m (£17.5-21.8m) for the defender.

Victor Nelsson could go for a bargain price

Now, however, it seems the Turkish outfit are a lot more keen to sell up, with a fee of just €10m (£8.5m) expected to be enough to seal the deal.

That’s according to Sabah (via Sport Witness), who claim Tottenham’s patience in the summer has paid off, as Galatasaray are now “ready to immediately accept a transfer fee of €10m” for the Danish international.

The player is seriously “considering leaving” the club in January, and it is thought that if Tottenham were to meet that value or higher, they would acquire their target fairly easily.

For that price, I honestly think we should sign Nelsson, grab another higher-value centre-half like Jean-Clair Todibo, and have our centre-back options absolutely sorted for the next few years. £8.5m is an absolute steal!
