Report: Spurs could secure top target at hugely discounted price this week

Tottenham Hotspur have been chasing the signature of Giovani Lo Celso, the Argentine playmaker, for some time now, bidding £53m for him towards the start of the summer (BBC).

However, Real Betis decided to turn down what would have been Spurs’ record transfer fee, as they believe it was too far away from Lo Celso’s £88m buyout.

There has now been an ironic twist in the tail in this particular transfer saga, as Real Betis are reportedly now willing to accept a hugely discounted fee.

This news comes after the Spanish club announced the signing of Nabil Fekir from Lyon, while also leaving Lo Celso out of their pre-season tour squad.

The Sun report that Fekir set Betis back £22.6m this summer, hence why they are now willing to let Lo Celso leave the club. The report states that Betis originally wanted at least £60m for Lo Celso, but are now looking for just £45m.

This would actually fall below Tottenham’s original offer for the player. The Mirror claim that once a fee is agreed, Lo Celso could join Spurs as early as this week.
