Report: Spurs could snap up 29-year-old striker before transfer deadline

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could look to snap up Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata before this evening’s transfer deadline.

Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur are expected to be Tottenham’s first signings of the January transfer window, with both captures set to be announced this afternoon (Evening Standard).

However, if The Mirror are to be believed, that might not be the end of Tottenham’s business today. The publication claims that Morata continues to be on the Lilywhites’ radar.

The striker is currently on loan at Juventus but he is thought to be surplus to requirements for the Serie A giants after their capture of Dusan Vlahovic (TEAMtalk).

The Mirror state that Atletico are not willing to loan the 29-year-old to rivals Barcelona, which potentially gives Spurs a chance to snap up the striker.

According to AS, the former Chelsea man is also of interest in Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Spurs made a genuine attempt to sign Morata today. The club’s pursuit of a striker will probably be put off until the summer, with a right-back arguably being a bigger priority before the transfer deadline.

Even if Spurs wanted Morata on loan, I suspect the Spaniard would prefer to join Arsenal instead as he would be the guaranteed first-choice striker at the Emirates while he will only be a backup at Spurs.
