Report: Spurs could swoop for Inter Milan star if they land Conte

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Football Italia), Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Achraf Hakimi if Antonio Conte is appointed as the club’s next head coach.

While some reports have indicated that Tottenham have essentially reached an agreement with Conte, others suggest that the former Chelsea boss is still mulling over the proposal and will make his final decision over the next few days.

If Tottenham do appoint the 51-year-old, La Gazzetta dello Sport have suggested that the North London club could pursue Hakimi, who was one of Inter’s most consistent performers in the Scudetto-winning campaign under Conte.

The wing-back is said to have reached a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain and the Ligue 1 giants are thus the clear front-runners for his signature.

However, the report reveals that Tottenham and Chelsea are also monitoring the 22-year-old’s situation and could challenge PSG.

If Conte does arrive, I would expect us to bring in two wing-backs for either side, depending on whether the Italian believes Sessegnon could be ready.

Hakimi would certainly be a natural fit for the right-wing-back slot but it will be interesting to how Doherty fares in Conte’s system.

Despite the poor season he had last time out, the former Wolves man does have a lot of the characteristics that the 51-year-old looks for in his wing-backs.
