Report: Spurs could ‘test the waters’ with £45m bid for Premier League star

GiveMeSport have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could be about to launch a £45m offer for Ivan Toney to test Brentford’s resolve.

The report says that Spurs want to add multiple reinforcements to their squad ahead of their return to Europe next season, with a new centre-forward one of the things on the club’s agenda.

Tottenham are still thought to be searching for an out-and-out replacement for Harry Kane and have allegedly identified Toney as a good fit.

In fact, it is revealed that Spurs seriously considered a move for the Brentford star in January and could be prepared to press forward with an approach for the striker this summer if they do not face major competition for his signature.

Spurs backed to table opening offer for Ivan Toney

GiveMeSport claim that Brentford value Toney at £60m, which is not a price that Spurs are willing to meet.

Instead, it is said that Ange Postecoglou’s men could test the Bees’ resolve by submitting a £45m offer for the player, who has just one year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The report states that Arsenal do not consider the 27-year-old a target while Manchester United have reservations about the striker.

Interestingly, the publication asserts that Chelsea are the favourites to land Toney even though the Blues have not made any concrete approaches for the player so far.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would fancy their chances of beating Chelsea for Toney as not only can the Lilywhites outspend their financial rivals, given the financial situation of either club but Postecoglou’s men will also have European football to offer the striker.
