Report: Spurs ‘currently considering’ whether to keep 27-year-old at club next season

According to Tutto Atalanta, Tottenham Hotspur are ‘currently considering’ whether to extend Pierluigi Gollini’s loan spell at the club.

Gollini has not played a single minute in the Premier League since joining the North London club on loan from Atalanta last summer, with all of his starts coming in the Europa Conference League or cup competitions (Transfermarkt).

It was previously reported that the North Londoners had decided against taking up the option to buy the Italian permanently (Goal), with the club said to be keen on signing West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as Hugo Lloris’ understudy (The Sun).

However, this was contradicted by TuttoMercatoWeb, who claimed last week that while Spurs are not willing to activate the €15m (£12.6m) option to buy Gollini, they are keen on extending his loan deal.

Tutto Atalanta have now reported that Antonio Conte’s men are yet to make a decision on the Italian goalkeeper, whose future remains up in the air.

It is explained that Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini’s potential exit from the Serie A outfit this summer could lead to the Gollini returning to his parent club.

The report also suggests that Juan Musso, who replaced Gollini at Atalanta last summer, has not had a particularly good season, and allow the two could battle it out to be the number one at Bergamo next campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

I doubt Gollini is going to want to extend his loan spell at Spurs if he has the option of being the number one at Atalanta or another Serie A club.

However, the 27-year-old will probably prefer being Lloris’ understudy at Spurs rather than returning to Bergamo and playing second fiddle to Musso.

My gut feeling is that Gollini will leave Atalanta to join another Italian club, who would promise the goalkeeper the number one shirt.
