Report: Spurs ‘currently not in frame’ for Manchester City player

The Athletic have revealed that a move to Tottenham Hotspur is not on the cards for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling as things stand.

There is uncertainty over Sterling’s future at City, with the forward falling down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order over the last year and a half, and having just 12 months left to run on his contract at the Etihad (Transfermarkt).

CBS football journalist Ben Jacobs said in an interview on The Gooner Talk YouTube channel earlier this week that Spurs were ahead of Arsenal in the race for the England international’s signature.

Jacobs insisted that the 27-year-old is keener to play under Antonio Conte than he is to link up with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

However, The Athletic have claimed that Sterling’s opinion of the Italian does not surpass total professional respect and that the forward has not signaled any intention to play for the Spurs head coach.

The report adds that the City star is also not entertaining a move to Arsenal and will only join ‘one of a small number of Europe’s most decorated teams’ if he is to leave the Etihad.

It is explained that Sterling will wait until England’s Nations League fixtures in June before making a decision on his future.

The Athletic add that while the former Liverpool man is ‘unlikely’ to sign a new contract with City, the possibility cannot be completely ruled out.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Sterling was open to a move to Spurs, I would not mind having him at the club. His runs off the ball will be a fantastic asset when Kane gets on the ball. The only issue would be the fact that the 27-year-old prefers playing off the left, which is also Son’s best position.
