Report: Spurs defender could be sold just 12 months after signing

The Sun have reported that Tottenham could sell Matt Doherty just 12 months after he was signed under the Jose Mourinho regime.

It was a season to forget for the former Wolves man who struggled to adapt to the new right-back position in a flat back four, spending most of the campaign on the bench.

The Irish defender made just 13 Premier League starts across the entire season, having to make to do with appearances in the cups and Europa League.

Football London have previously reported that Tottenham are looking to strengthen at right-back this summer after a below-par campaign with Aurier and Doherty.

However, despite the report from the Sun, one would think that Doherty’s chances of sticking around would dramatically increase if Nuno Espirito Santo, his former Wolves manager, was handed the North London hot seat (Sky Sports).

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think Tottenham’s priority will be a sale of Serge Aurier over Matt Doherty. Also, if Nuno is given the job, I would be more confident that Doherty would become a starter than be sold.
