Report: Spurs defender could stay as £25m value has not yet been met

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to keep hold of their star centre-back, Toby Alderweirled, for the next season and possibly beyond.

Spurs extended the Belgian’s contract for an extra season back in early 2019, but this triggered a clause that makes him available for just £25m this summer (Guardian).

The low buyout clause is set to run out on July 26, but Sky Sports reported this week that Roma are interested on taking Alderweireld this summer.

However, Football London have since reported that no club has yet met the £25m valuation for Alderweireld, with Roma discussing a deal but not hitting that set number.

The Express have gone so far as to add that Tottenham now expect that Alderweireld will remain at the club beyond the summer.

They chalk this up to Alderweireld’s representatives demanding high wages from the Italian side.

However, the report does state that if Toby stays, he will likely leave on a free in the summer of 2020.
