Report: Spurs defender ‘destined to leave’ ahead of European transfer window closing

One position where it looks like there will wholesale changes for Spurs this season is at right back.

Tottenham have already sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid this summer and Serge Aurier has also been linked with a move back to his former club PSG (The Sun).

A report in the Daily Mail has claimed that he is one of the players who is ‘destined to leave’ before the European transfer window closes on September 2nd.

The Ivory Coast international a with high expectations when he arrived from PSG two seasons ago and showed glimpses of great quality in his first season at the club.

However, he has not been able to iron the rough edges out of his game and has been unlucky with injuries which prevented him from ever having a sustained run in the side; along with being unable to take a throw-in.

The 26-year-old was an unused substitute in Tottenham’s opening Premier League game against Aston Villa but failed to make the match day squad against Manchester City last weekend.

Selling Aurier would be a gamble as it would leave Tottenham with only Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth for the position. However, based on Pochettino’s comments, it looks like he is happy to have those two battle it out and use the likes of Moussa Sissoko or Eric Dier as cover in case of an injury crisis.
