Report: Spurs defender heading out on season-long loan deal

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is today heading to Stoke City to complete a season-long loan deal.

The USA international did not feature for Tottenham during pre-season after a period of rehabilitation and now looks set for a move to the Potteries.

Respected football journalist Graeme Bailey has taken to Twitter to claim that Stoke have won the race to land the 21-year-old ahead of a number of Championship clubs.

The Sun reported that Leeds United were considered favourites to sign Carter-Vickers who has had previous experience of playing in the second tier of English football with loan spells at Swansea City, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United.

Carter-Vickers found himself considerably down on the central defensive pecking order in North London behind the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth and has even seen young academy product Japhet Tanganga impress during his outings for Mauricio Pochettino’s side during their pre-season campaign.

Opinion

Another loan spell is certainly in the best interests of CCV as he would find first-team football hard to come by at Spurs given the quality and depth we possess in the position.
