Report: Spurs defender is considering asking to leave in January

Juan Foyth has been considering his playing future at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window.

The Athletic report that the Argentina international would prefer to leave the Champions League finalists if he continues to struggle for game time.

Foyth was one of the few positives during Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich last night when he impressed in a central defensive pairing alongside Toby Alderweireld.

It was a rare outing for the 21-year-old who had yet to feature since Jose Mourinho had taken over from Mauricio Pochettino

Mourinho said after the match that he had learned more about his capabilities in the 90 minutes of action at the Allianz Arena than he had in the three weeks of the former Estudiantes player not featuring (Football.London).

Foyth, who plays regularly for Argentina has the Copa America tournament on the horizon next summer and believes he needs to be playing on a regular basis.

The report claims that he is open to a move to another Premier League club or even aboard and is yet to discuss his future with the North Londoners.

With a busy festive fixture period on the horizon, Foyth’s future could be decided in the coming weeks.

Opinion

With Alderweireld and Vertonghen potentially leaving the club in the summer, Spurs need to start planning ahead and giving Foyth regular football if he is the future of our defence.

Losing him along with the Belgian pair would be catastrophic.
