Report: Spurs discussed move for Ligue 1 goalkeeper before Vicario deal was agreed

Journalist  Ignazio Genuardi has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur considered a move for Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont before confirmation of the Vicario deal emerged.

A couple of days ago, we relayed a report from 90 min that claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are considering other alternatives to David Raya as Brentford were unwilling to lower their £40m asking price.

The outlet named Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario, Brighton’s Robert Sanchez, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel as the four alternatives on Spurs’ radar.

The North London club have pressed ahead with a move for Vicario, with Fabrizio Romano revealing on Thursday morning that the Lilywhites had already agreed personal terms with the Italian ahead of a €19m (£16.3m) offer. He has since given his ‘here we go’ seal of approval on the move.

Tottenham looked at Lafont as David Raya alternative

Genuardi took to social media to claim that Lafont was another name on Spurs’ shortlist as the club looked beyond Raya.

The journalist asserted that Tottenham had discussed a move for the French shot-stopper, who has just one year left to run on his contract at the Beaujoire Stadium.

Based on the reports over the last 48 hours, it seems pretty clear that Vicario was the man that Tottenham settled on as their top target.

It appears as if the only way that the deal for the Empoli star could collapse is if Brentford swiftly lower their asking price for Raya, thus causing Spurs to resurrect their interest in the Spaniard.
