Report: Spurs ‘do not seem’ willing to meet club’s asking price for 23-year-old

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur seem unwilling to meet AS Roma’s asking price for Nicolo Zaniolo.

Over the last couple of days, reports have indicated that Spurs are determined to conclude a deal for Zaniolo.

90 min claimed on Tuesday that the North London club are refusing to give up on their pursuit of the winger.

The report even added that Fabio Paratici has met with Roma general manager Tiago Pinto to discuss a deal for the 23-year-old in the days following the pre-season friendly between the two clubs in Israel.

IlRomanista subsequently suggested that the Giallorossi had informed Spurs it would take a fee of €60m (£50.1m) to sign the Italy international.

The same figure has now been reported by CalcioMercato, who claim Juventus consider the fee to be excessive while Spurs ‘do not seem inclined’ to pay that for Zaniolo despite Antonio Conte’s insistence.

The report claims Jose Mourinho now wants the winger to stay at the Stadio Olimpico ‘at all costs’.

It is explained that Zaniolo is expected to remain a Roma player unless the Serie A club receive ‘crazy offers’ this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see Spurs bidding £50m for Zaniolo this summer, given that the club have not spent the fee they had kept aside for Bastoni.

It seems like both Conte and Paratici view the 23-year-old’s availability as being too big an opportunity to miss out on.

So, I fully expect us to test Roma’s resolve in the final weeks or even days of the transfer window.
