Report: Spurs ‘dream’ of signing midfielder to play behind Harry Kane

Sky Italia have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur ‘dream’ of signing AS Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo in the summer to play behind Harry Kane.

Zaniolo has struggled to recapture his old form since returning from an ACL injury that kept him out of action for the vast majority of the 2020/21 season (Transfermarkt).

Calciomercato.it claimed this week that AS Roma are expected to open contract talks with the winger this week.

However, it was suggested that the Serie A club would be willing to listen to offers for the player in the summer starting from €40m (£33.8m) should they fail to reach an agreement.

The report added that Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici is an admirer of Zaniolo.

Sky Italia have now backed up this claim, stating that the Roma star may interest Antonio Conte’s men in the summer as they dream of playing him behind Kane.

The report reveals that Spurs could face competition from Juventus and AC Milan for Zaniolo, with both clubs ‘ready to send signals’ of their interest in the Italy international.

There is no doubt that Zaniolo’s stock has dropped considerably compared to where it was a couple of years ago. Conte might believe he is the man to get the best out of the winger but any move for the 22-year-old might also depend on how well Kulusevski fares in North London.
