Report: Spurs dressing room sources explains how Postecoglou has changed the culture

The Athletic have detailed the changes that Ange Postecoglou has made at Tottenham Hotspur in his first 100 days in charge, revealing that the Australian has made a conscious effort to empower the players and the staff at the club.

The report states that Postecoglou has prioritised changing the culture at Spurs and is even prepared to suffer short-term hits for the sake of long-term benefits, in contrast to Antonio Conte, who was more ‘short-termist’ in his thinking.

It is explained that the main lever Postecoglou has pulled at Spurs is to give more responsibility to the squad and to the staff, with the Tottenham head coach repeatedly reiterating that he wants the players to drive the cultural shifts.

For instance, the 58-year-old has allegedly asked players and staff to get to sleep in their own beds the night before a home match and make their way individually to the stadium rather than assembling at the training ground first.

The idea behind this is to give the players and staff one less night away from their families and trust them to prepare the right way.

Postecoglou is said to have a similar attitude with respect to his coaching staff, giving them a sense of ownership and responsibility for the training session.

Postecoglou is keen to give everyone responsibility

The Athletic add that the new Spurs head coach has also done the same with all the departments at the club, be it the analysts or the medical staff, trusting their expertise rather than interfering, which Conte was known to do.

A dressing-room source is quoted as saying about the Aussie coach: “He’s very good at delegating. He wants to empower people and give them proper responsibility.”

The outlet reveals that some who work at the club told them that Postecoglou, unlike some of his predecessors, has made an effort to introduce himself and speak to all the staff at Hotspur Way.

Another source at the club has said regarding the impact that Postecolgpu has made: “The mood has been transformed”.

While Postecoglou’s leadership style is evidently different to Conte’s, the bigger change is simply the fact that the Australian seems like a much kinder human being, who treats his players and staff with empathy.
