Report: Spurs encourage Prem rival to take right-back on loan despite shortage

Tottenham Hotspur have sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid this summer following a poor showing from the England international last season.

As of this moment, Tottenham haven’t signed a new right-back, leaving them with Serge Aurier, Juan Foyt,h and Kyle Walker-Peters who can all play in the position.

However, now a report in Football Insider suggests that Southampton have made a late move to sign Walker-Peters on loan for the season. The 22-year-old defender is said to be the Saints’ top target before deadline day.

The report suggested that Southampton have been encouraged to bid for Walker-Peters, with Tottenham letting them know that he is available to be loaned out. It is suggested that Pochettino has decided to loan the youngster out if Spurs can get in a new right-back before the transfer window shuts at 5 pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Serge Aurier has also been linked with a move back to PSG (Football Insider) while Tottenham are said to be considering making a bid for OGC Nice right back Youcef Atal (DZ Football).

This deal looks extremely unlikely as Walker-Peters is currently the only fully fit right back at the club following Foyth’s injury during preseason. However, a season of playing regular Premier League football will certainly do Walker-Peters a world of good and might fast forward his development.
