Report: Spurs enquired about £70m-rated striker in January – May revisit in summer

Tottenham are planning to revisit the possible signing of Victor Osimhen in the summer after making an enquiry for the Napoli striker last month, according to Football Insider.

The report claims Spurs attempted to sign Osimhen during the January transfer window but their approach was knocked back by the Parenopei.

However, it states Antonio Conte’s side will return for the Nigeria international, who Napoli value up to £70 million, in the summer at the conclusion of the campaign.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 after a stellar campaign with the Ligue 1 outfit (BBC Sport).

The 23-year-old impressed in his first season at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona notching 10 goals, with his total tally standing at 19 goals and five assists in 46 appearances (Transfermarkt).

But Osimhen’s current campaign has been a heavily disrupted one after he missed two months of action due to a fractured cheekbone.

He was also ruled out of Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations having tested positive for COVID-19 shortly before the tournament.

Osimhen would be a top signing for Tottenham if Conte wants to bulk up his attacking options, but he won’t come cheap at all. He still has a ceiling that he hasn’t reached just yet, so it might be a deal worth pursuing considering the lack of strikers behind Harry Kane.
