Report: Spurs enter race for 25-year-old Premier League defender amid contract dispute

The Daily Star have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now entered the race for Andreas Christensen amid the centre-back’s contract standoff with Chelsea.

Christensen’s current contract with Chelsea runs out at the end of the season and Thomas Tuchel’s side have not been able to agree on a new deal with the defender’s representatives so far.

The Daily Star have revealed that the 25-year-old could leave Stamford Bridge as a free agent next summer if the stalemate in the negotiations continues.

Spurs are alleged to be the latest club to enter the race for the Denmark international, with Antonio Conte said to be prioritising strengthening at centre-back.

The report adds that the North London club face plenty of competition for Christensen, with Manchester City and Manchester United following the developments over his contract negotiations.

In addition, it is explained that the Dane is also attracting interest from Barcelona and AC Milan, and that the two clubs could steal a march on the English teams by opening talks with the player’s entourage in January.

Finally, it is revealed that Chelsea have not yet given up hope of persuading Christensen to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

Christensen would be a smart addition for Spurs as he would come with Premier League experience under his belt and would be a natural fit for Conte’s back three.

However, if he does become available on a free transfer, one can expect plenty of clubs around Europe to line up for his signature. So, a deal will not be easy to pull off.
