Report: Spurs enter race for right-back who impressed them this season

According to Jornal de Noticias, Tottenham Hotspur have now entered the race for Sporting Lisbon right-back Pedro Porro ahead of the January transfer window.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Antonio Conte is prioritising overhauling his options at right wing-back in January (90 min).

Porro, who featured as a wing-back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, impressed during Sporting’s 1-1 draw against the Lilywhites last month, with only an outstanding save from Hugo Lloris preventing the 23-year-old from getting on the scoresheet.

Following that clash, Jermaine Jenas described the Spain international as ‘different class’ and admitted that he is the one Sporting player he would like to have at Spurs, even ahead of Marcus Edwards (BT Sport 3 – 26/10/22 – from 20:00 onwards).

If Jornal de Noticias’ latest update is to be believed, Porro has also won over the Spurs hierarchy, with the Lilywhites alleged to have joined the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the race for the player.

The report adds that the former Girno man, who has five assists across all competitions in the first part of the campaign, will only leave Sporting if his €45m (£39.2m) release clause is met.

Spurs Web Opinion

Porro was exceptional in the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but I suspect that Conte will want a more experienced right wing-back who is proven in one of the top leagues. So, I expect Spurs to move on Emerson Royal in January and replace the Brazilian with someone like Denzel Dumfries.
