Report: Spurs expected to abandon pursuit of 23-year-old Premier League star

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Marc Guehi is expected to be too expensive for Tottenham Hotspur.

It is quite clear that Ange Postecoglou’s men are prioritising strengthening at central defence in January, which does not come as much of a surprise, particularly given that the Australian does not appear to trust Eric Dier.

Over the last couple of months, various outlets have named Guehi as one of the centre-backs that Tottenham are eying (GiveMeSport).

A few days ago, Sky Sports also backed up this claim, stating that the Palace star is one of the three defenders at the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist.

The report added, however, that the Eagles have no intention of selling the 23-year-old in January, and that any interested club would likely have to wait until next summer.

Marc Guehi is out of Tottenham’s reach for now

The Mirror have now also named Guehi as one of the centre-backs that Postecoglou’s men are looking at.

However, the publication has poured cold water on Tottenham’s chances of signing the Chelsea academy graduate as they say that the England international is thought to be out of Spurs’ price range.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Guehi was available for around £50m-£60m (Palace are likely to demand a significantly higher fee), I still do not expect Spurs to consider moving for the 23-year-old.

The North London club will likely sign a player in the £20-£30m price range to serve as an understudy to Romero and Van de Ven, who will continue being Ange’s first-choice pairing.
