Report: Spurs expected to face challenge from Newcastle for 26-year-old

Calciomercato have claimed that Newcastle United have joined Tottenham Hotspur as the front-runners to sign Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson next summer.

Over recent weeks, Spurs Web has brought to you a number of reports from Italy which have talked up the North London side’s interest in Gudmundsson.

This includes an update from Gazzetta dello Sport two days ago, which stated that the Lilywhites have ‘sent observers’ to Italy to run the rule over the Iceland international.

The report added that Ange Postecoglou’s men ‘have the money to close the operation’ for the 26-year-old when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Spurs and Newcastle both like Albert Gudmundsson

CalcioMercato’s latest update suggests that Spurs’ pursuit of Gudmundsson will be anything but straightforward, with interest now starting to build in the versatile attacker.

It is revealed that the likes of Juventus and Napoli have ‘never stopped following him’ and are expected to try their luck next summer.

However, the report indicates that Tottenham’s main threat could come from Newcastle, with the two Premier League sides said to have ‘the best chance’ of landing Gudmundsson.

This is because the player might be attracted by the prospect of moving to England while the two clubs would also offer him ‘higher salary prospects’ than Serie A sides.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the sheer number of reports over the last couple of weeks linking Gudmundsson with a move to the Premier League, it does seem like the 26-year-old’s agent is already putting out feelers to see who would be interested in a summer deal for his client.
