Report: Spurs expected to launch first offer for midfielder before end of May

According to Portuguese outlet Journal de Noticias, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to formalise their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha over the coming weeks.

Spurs reportedly had offers rejected by Sporting for Palhinha 12 months ago (Daily Star) and they have been backed to reignite their interest in the Portugal international this summer (Record).

The print edition of O Jogo (27/04/22) claimed recently that the midfielder is expected to leave Jose Alvalade Stadium this summer, naming the Lilywhties as one of three leading contenders for his signature, alongside Paris Saint-Germain and Wolves (Sport Witness).

Correio da Manha (29/04/22) revealed last week that the 26-year-old is expected to be available for a fee of around €30m (£25.1m) this summer (Sport Witness).

Journal de Noticias have now claimed that Tottenham are aware of the growing interest in Palhinha and ‘want to get ahead of the competition’.

It is alleged that Antonio Conte’s men are thus planning on launching an offer for the Sporting star before the end of May.

Palhinha’s stock is not as high as it was 12 months ago owing to the injury-hit campaign that the midfielder has had. However, given that Spurs were seemingly interested in him last summer, they might believe that now is an ideal time to snap up the midfielder for a bargain price.
