Report: Spurs expected to ‘resume talks’ regarding midfielder this week

The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will ‘resume’ negotiations with Napoli regarding a deal for Tanguy Ndombele this week.

Napoli’s interest in Ndombele first came to light last week when the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (11/08/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) revealed the Serie A club had identified the Frenchman as a potential replacement for Fabian Ruiz, who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The report added that the 25-year-old was keen to leave Spurs permanently and he was even prepared to take a wage cut to make that happen.

Sky Sports then claimed on Friday that Napoli had opened talks with Tottenham over a deal for Ndombele. The report did not mention whether the Italian club wanted to sign the Frenchman on loan or permanently but it was asserted that a deal was ‘progressing’.

The Evening Standard have now revealed that Spurs will resume talks with Luciano Spalletti’s side regarding Ndombele this week after Destiny Udogie officially completes his switch to the North London club.

The report adds that the midfielder is expected to join Napoli on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

It sounds like the departure of Ndombele should be confirmed by the end of the week, which would leave just Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks to be moved on before the window closes at the end of the month.

I would not be surprised if Conte decides to keep Tanganga at the club instead of signing another centre-back and reassess the situation in January.
