Report: Spurs expected to start talks with Barcelona for player in ‘coming days’

Fichajes.net have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to soon begin negotiations with Barcelona over a summer deal for Franck Kessie.

Kessie has struggled for game time since arriving at Barcelona on a free transfer last summer after his contract with AC Milan ran out.

Fichajes now state that the midfielder ‘will almost certainly’ be in the shop window when the transfer window reopens in the summer as the Ivorian is not in Xavi Hernandez’s future plans.

The report adds that the Premier League could be Kessie’s likely destination, with Tottenham being named as the club who have shown ‘the most interest’ in the player.

It is alleged that Antonio Conte is the driving force behind the North London cub’s interest in the 26-year-old, with the Italian said to be keen on bringing the midfielder to Hotspur Way.

Fichajes assert that Spurs are set to begin talks with Barcelona for Kessie over the coming days and claim that the Lilywhites would be willing to put €30m (£26.3m) on the table for the former Milan star, which could be enough to convince the Catalan giants to sell.

Despite the heavy speculation linking James Maddison with a move to Spurs, I have always felt that Kessie would be a much better fit for Conte’s system than the England international. 

I would be surprised if Tottenham do not test the waters for the Ivorian in the summer as he is unlikely to be too expensive, particularly since Barca will want to take him off their wage bill.
