Report: Spurs explored move for 26-year-old Lenglet alternative

RMC Sport have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur considered signing Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Abdou Diallo over recent weeks before pushing ahead with a move for Clement Lenglet.

Fabrizio Romano that Tottenham are set to sign Lenglet on a loan without an option to buy this summer as Conte looks to improve his options across the back three.

RMC Sport have now claimed that before turning their attentions to Lenglet, Tottenham explored the option of signing Diallo.

The report explains that PSG are willing to cash in on the Senegal international, who has fallen down the pecking order in the French capital over the last 12 months.

It is asserted that Spurs decided to pursue Lenglet instead since the operation proved to be much less expensive than the Diallo one.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Tottenham’s main thinking behind singing Lenglet is to try again for Alessandro Bastoni or Josko Gvardiol next summer. The Frenchman would be able to cover for Ben Davies, and the fact that he is set to join on loan means that there is no risk involved for the North Londoners.
