Report: Spurs exploring possibility of signing Brazilian starlet

According to a report from Sky Sports (as relayed by TEAMtalk), Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Palmeiras’ highly-rated youngster Gabriel Menino in the summer transfer window.

Menino has been making waves in Brazilian football since breaking into Palmerias’ starting eleven during January of last year.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who has made a total of 59 appearances for the club so far, has scoring 4 and assisted 7 times, played a key role in helping them win the Copa Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil.

Sky Sports claims that Spurs have shifted their interest to the South American market in the wake of work permit rules arising from Brexit.

The North Londoners are reportedly closely monitoring Menino, who was previously also said to be on Chelsea’s and Atletico Madrid’s radar.

The report reveals that Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his central midfield options and the club potentially see the Brazilian as someone who can be integrated into the side in the future.

Additionally, the youngster’s ability to play at right-back is also seen as an additional benefit since Mourinho is said to have doubts over the futures of Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier.

The problem with shopping directly from the South American market is that signings are likely to be hit and miss given their lack of experience at the top level. For every potential gem that the club might be able to find, there might be several others who fail to adapt to English football.
